WHO IS PRETTYFIT J?
Let me introduce myself. My name is Jiyan Hasan, but I go by Pretty FitJ on my social media handles.
I was born in Duhok, Iraq, and moved to the U.S. when I was 5 due to a war in Iraq in 1988 that forced my family to leave everything behind and start over. As you can imagine that became very stressful at times for my parents. It was a total culture shock. As a child I barely knew what had happened and never asked many questions. Something just did not feel ok. Fast forward to today I realized I used food to cope with the trauma I went through.
I struggled with my weight my entire lif—stress eating is a difficult thing to stop. As a result, I tried every diet, workout plan and fast loss pills possible. FAIL! Chances are, you have done the same, so you know what happened: a yo-yo effect that is even less healthy than maintaining a heavy weight.
However, I realized that instead of helping my situation, I was only hurting myself.
Then I realized that exercise was one of the greatest stress relievers we know. I decided that I had enough of being overweight and unhappy with myself. I had enough of the stress of trying and failing. I decided that I was going to do what it took to succeed whether I liked it or not—even if that meant giving up my favorite extra-cheesy cheese sticks and double servings of my mom’s favorite jasmine rice. I know you too can relate to that.
Believe me, sometimes I struggled and failed many times but I kept trying. With much consistency, dedication and determination to my goals I went from 190 pounds to 130 pounds. Because I was public about my journey, I discovered something.I was inspiring people. My family, sure, but also people around the world I had never met or heard of.
And I loved it.
Turns out my passion for helping and inspiring people outweighed my passion for getting and staying fit—so much that I built a business around it so that I could do it every day.
Working as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) didn’t serve my soul like I wanted, although I was helping people working in that field as well.
I then decided to get certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) to help women overcome daily challenges and love themselves for once while using fitness as a tool.
Enter Pretty Fit Girls Club, LLC.
Pretty Fit Girls Club was created with a vision to educate, motivate, and inspire women who’ve had the same struggles I had—and that I still have at times today.Helping other women helps me to stay strong and motivated to keep going.
I have competed in 4 bodybuilding shows to challenge myself and help sharpen the skills I need to maintain this new lifestyle I now live. I did it to prove, to not only myself, but to all the women who were/are watching me, that if you really want anything bad enough, you too can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
